Letter U and Presidents week

I gave the students the word under, and I asked them to write any sentence using that word. They came up with some great ideas!

In our journals this week we wrote about who, or what, we love. They all had wonderful writing, I wish I could put them all on here. Here are a few examples of what the students love!

We talked a lot about the presidents. We learned that George Washington was the first president. We also learned that Washington, D.C. is named for him.  We made George Washington as an art project.

Our 100 day party is always an exciting event! Here are the students counting out 100 squares!

We talked a lot about how 100 is 10 groups of 10. They put 10 dots in each of them 10 circles to make 100.

This is my favorite 100 day activity. I take a picture of the students using an app that makes them look old. Then I print it off for them. Then they imagine what they would do when they are 100 and they write about it. They are always so entertaining!

We also made glasses with 100 on them for the 100th day! The kids loved them.

The other President we talked a lot about was Abraham Lincoln. We talked about how he had to learn from books because he had to work on the farm and couldn't go to school. We also talked about how he wanted to help out people and the country. Then we made him for an art project.

We had discussions about what we thought a president should be like and be able to do. In our journals we wrote.. The president is.. and the students got to finish the sentence. We thought up some words together and they got to pick the one they liked best about the president. They then got to draw a president, or themselves as the president.
