F week and R Week

F week

We painted fish with watercolor!

During circle time we thought up all the F words that we might find at the fair!

The students all made New Year resolutions. We talked about how it was a goal to work towards. The one above says learn to ride a bike. The two below are learn Chinese and learn to jump rope. I think they all have a busy year ahead!

We had the fireman come in and give a talk on fire safety. They made us teacher put all the gear on. The kids thought it was great! I couldn't get pictures of it though.

Here they are practicing their stop, drop, and roll.

The kids practiced reading their sight word books to a few people in class. It was great to hear them all reading!

We did some practicing on the ipad. This is a game where they put the number into the right spot on the number line. It also uses a frog that they can jump to do addition problems. They did awesome!

We have been talking about the 5 senses. As a class we talked about winter, and what each of our senses would do in winter. We turned that into a poem. We then made snowmen with shaving cream and glue! They loved it. And we put both pieces together!

We have been talking about 10 and some more. We did this sheet that showed a group of ten, and then how many more ones to make a number. They did a great job!

We also learned a lot about frogs this week. In our journals we had the writing prompt a frog has... then they had to finish it by sounding out the words they wanted to write. The one below says, A frog has babies.

Above is, A frog has an eardrum. Below says, A Frog has camouflage.

R Week

This week we introduced subtraction. We did a lot of work with story problems and the different ways to solve it. Above shows you that they wrote the problem, used a number line, and drew a picture. It's great to see them using so many strategies! We also had math night. Below are a few pictures of our students and their families playing math games!

Here is another example of a student working through a subtraction problem.

We read the book above in class. Then we talked about what we think snowman do at night. The students sounded out what their snowman does at night. Then they painted, using pointillism, a snowman to go with their writing.  The writing below says at night, my snowman has a snowball fight.

We got some new sight word cds. They have a song for each sight word that helps them spell the work while they sing. Here they are writing the sight words as they sing the songs!

We talked about what it means to be responsible. Then they came up with some ways that they could be responsible and I wrote them down as they told me.

This was the first week that they sounded out all the pictures in their sight word book by themselves! We got rabbits, ribs, rocket, run, Rowan and many more. They did so well!

We also talked about MLK Jr. and his dream for our country. Then the kids each came up with a dream to help make the world a better place.

Above it says that everybody is nice. Below it says everybody is good.

To continue our 5 senses unit, we made a Mr. Potato Head. They got to put the pieces on , then label what sense each part does. They turned out cute!
