color week 2015

What an amazing first few weeks of school! I hope your children are all having a great time!
In math we are working on numbers. Writing numbers, counting, and identifying how many in a group. This first photo shows a problem we talked through together. I told the students I saw 4 eyes in a hole through my fence. These were some of the ideas they came up with. the first one said four dogs. Then as we talked, they discovered that was to many because each one has two eyes. These are the things we want them to start to discover on their own!

This graph shows voting on our favorite colors. Each student got to share their favorite, then we looked at our graph and decided which had the most and which had the least.

Here they are working on a math activity of identifying numbers and writing those numbers. They rolled a die, counted how many dots, then traced that number. They did such an amazing job!

Some even wanted to write more so went on the back and wrote them on their own!

We read Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?  We got to practice our colors by coloring the animals the right color. We also talked about sequencing the animals in the order they were in the book. I hope they came home and retold you the story using their paper they made.

Here we were practicing counting out a certain number of blocks. Then we practiced writing the numbers as well.  they loved it!

We did a science experiment on primary and secondary colors. We talked a lot about how you mix two primary colors to make a secondary color. So we put some primary colors in the cups on the outside. Then over a few days we watched the color move up the paper towel into the middle and make a secondary color in the middle. They were so excited when they finally mixed!

This graph was the colors we were wearing that day. We also talked about which had the most and which had the least.

We read My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss. We talked about different feelings and what colors we thought would best show those feelings. They all turned out great!

Today we read The Big Orange Splot. It talks about how you can use color to express your feelings and dreams. Then they each decorated a house to fir their feelings and dreams!
